Magnus, Robot Fighter
Dark Horse Gold Key Characters. A re-birth of Valiant line. Sort of.
Dark Horse Comics announced in 2009 Comic-Con International in San Diego that it was to publish a new series based on classic Gold Key characters like Turok, Doctor Solar, and Magnus: Robot Fighter. Jim Shooter, who previously helmed a relaunch of these characters as Editor-in-Chief of Valiant Comics, wrote some of the titles. Shooter oversaw all of the new Gold Key titles developed for Dark Horse. After a 2010 launch on Free Comic Book Day, some titles were launched in late 2010, but most suffered from terrible lateness. SOLAR published eight books during its first year, but Turok and Mighty Samson published only two. Magnus, Turok, and Samson were converted to four-issue limited series - even though covers through six or seven were made public, or solicited. As of 2012, all series have been placed 'on hiatus,' with a SOLAR trade paperback scheduled for June of 2012, and an Occultist Trade Paperback had been scheduled for later in the summer. No further announcements have been forthcoming, leading most to believe that the line has been cancelled.
Dark Horse published an additional three-part story featuring the Occultist in Dark Horse Presents 11-13. That story was featured in the Occultist TPB. The Occultist had one additional five part story. It was also re-published in another TPB. For the most part, the line stayed dormant until Dynamite revitalized it. Twice.
