Valiant hyped this book like crazy. Combined decrease in price, new story, 'new direction,' and advertising like crazy in the line. I'm not sure if it was slated for cancellation, or it wasn't. The writing of the story is excellent. Frankly, I'm a little surprised that much of the line hadn't exploited these turns before. Inclusion of the Ripper? Amazing. The connections back to the past are almost always nice history lessons. Plus - the son thing - and all of his children being problematic - very cool. But one of the best turns in this book is toward the real inclusion of REALITY within the story. How old ARE you? Who are your parents? This is what makes this turn in the book very good.
Back, for now...
I loved when I first read about the Avengers how the Ant-Man, Giant Man, Goliath, Goliath 2, Yellowjacket, Hank Pym mess kept changing. This guy changes his name more than the Wasp changed outfits. But the comic was a nice read - and frankly, it's much better to get back to a slightly broader Avengers team - the whole Hawkeye-Cap-Quicksilver fight was getting pretty tired. Nice to see some origins surrounding these team members - former as they may be. But the changeover from the hidden - along with the changes in the new Goliath's consequences to using his powers - are more of the beginning of the Bronze Age closing out the Silver. Just strange to see it all starting at nearly the same time in every comic.
Tough call.
If you FORCED me to choose, I'd call Gilad - but both were very good representations of the time frame.
